"I see art as divine, and believe art that lacks divinity will not last."
"My name is David Bamishile, I was born in Lagos in western Nigeria, on April 30, 1975.
"I believe that within every man lies a well of creativity, but it takes a rightly-groomed and capable hand to draw out of it. For my grooming, I had formal training in one of the nation's foremost art institutions - Auchi Polytechnic, known as the 'colorist school,' (1992 - 1997). And because color dominates my perception, I majored in painting, thus joining the nation's avante garde. I have since then had various exhibitions, both nationally and internationally, the most recent being in Manhattan, U.S.A.
"I am the son of a late banker/clergy father whose love for art played a big role in my career, setting me on my path. It is a home, where you feel love as a motivator. This created a suitable atmosphere where creativity is nurtured. It keeps one going to know that one's dreams, aspirations and profession enjoy the family's encouragement and admiration.
"I see art as divine, and believe art that lacks divinity will not last. I am passionate about colors; I literally dream color in diverse expressions. I see color as a vehicle of personal evocative expression.
"Though my art is grounded in day to day activities, I paint the sensation that I feel in the presence of my subject or motif, arranging my colors intuitively, but in pure sparkling harmony of clamorous tones, thereby giving color a life independent of form and traditional modeling.
"Beyond mere description, my seldom use of strong colors derives from the desire to create excitement and take it to a realm of aesthetics. Often I make them pretty and render them richly with discrete but energized strokes, or apply a beautiful dematerializing texture with bravura. I work with most painting media, but oil color seems to be my forte. I guess this is due to its flexibility. Either with the brush or palette knife, I fancy rich luminous application resulting in an exciting encrusted surface. After getting my motif, my intuition and emotion take over. But no matter how emotional I get about a subject, I allow an element of control. Because I emphasize color at the expense of forms, in order not to lose the whole form into the sea of beautiful colors, I use a black linear drawing to maintain control.
"There is beauty all around us and in all we do. This beauty, I intend to bring into every home and heart, in a poetic manner, through my painting."
Since the time David joined Novica he is now happily married, and works as a studio artist as well as a Senior Art Director. He signs his work David Bamishile-Richards in honor of his late and much beloved father.
